Conversion tables (1), (2) and (3)


In this paragraph one can find help towards the calculation between power, voltage and dB.

The tables show the proportion between dB, power and voltage, respectively. The tables can be used both ways meaning that the value in dB can be found if a power is known and vice versa.

In table no. 1 all the formulars that are used for calculation of the tables are stated.

Please note that if the power is calculated in dB it has to be multiplied by 10 in the logarithm of power whereas voltage in dB has to be multiplied by 20 in the logarithm of voltage.

The tables show the power, voltage or dB figure that has to be converted and will show which unit it has to be converted into.
If the number given is not stated the formulars can be used. The conversion can be seen in the two examples below.

Example 1:





As shown in the example it is very important to know where the dB figure comes from.

Table 2 and 3 show a dB scale of 0 to 140 dB. The two left columns state dB as negative and the figures are converted into either power or voltage.
The two right columns state dB as positive and the figures are converted into either power or voltage. Table 2 and 3 show that the examples correspond with the table.



Table no. 1 illustrates dB (dBmili) and dBμV - dBm is calculated by dividing the power by
1 mW. It is the same with dBμV where the voltage is divided by 1 μV illustrated by the example below.
